Pinterest World’s Fair

design leadership & direction

The Pinterest advertising product needed a new sense of vision. The design team was also looking for ways to get ahead of the product and start envisioning a future experience.

I established an exploratory forum to envision the not too distant future—our North Star. We called it, World’s Fair, and ran quarterly workshops towards it. The workshops were usually four days away from the day-to-day. We invited product management and engineering to the kickoffs, check-ins, and share outs at the end of the week.

The World’s Fair initiative provided the team with a much clearer vision for the platform’s future and helped garner support and interest in the projects across the company. The workshops were the birthplace of several features available today.
